Age 84 of Coal City, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at Edward Hospital in Naperville.

Born March 7, 1933 in Gardner, Phyllis Jean was a daughter of the late George and Anastasia "Dolly" (Brusningham) Johnson. She was raised and educated in Gardner and graduated from Gardner South Wilmington High School with the Class of 1952. On January 10, 1953, Phyllis married John "Jack" Phillips in St. Lawrence Catholic Church in South Wilmington. A dedicated wife and mother, Phyllis cherished her family and was always there for them. She enjoyed always being on the go, playing cards with her friends, and spending time with her red hat ladies. Phyllis took pleasure in decorating, crafting and watching the Chicago Cubs. Always beautifully dressed and accessorized, Phyllis loved to have fun and laugh. She was always the life of the party making sure she cooked and baked everyone's favorite food.

Survivors include her children: Kathleen Phillips of Shorewood, Wisconsin,  John Phillips and Greg (Rose) Phillips, both of Coal City, Lisa (Philip) Bertoglio of Diamond and Mark (Jen) Phillips of Coal City; five grandkids: Nicholas Arndt, Nathan Arndt, Kristen Arndt, Danny Phillips and Lauren Phillips; her brother-in-law: Joseph T. Phillips and sister-in-law Karen (David) Togliatti, both of Coal City, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jack on January 16, 2005; four sisters: Alice (Delbert) Neece, Helen (Tony) Reiger, Dede (Howard) Schennum and Kathleen Frances Johnson in childhood; one brother Harold (Geneva) Johnson; her mother-in-law and father-in-law Joseph and Irene Phillips; brother-in-law, Mike Phillips and sisters-in-law, Janice (Joe) Bertoglio and Margaret "Pat" Phillips.

Visitation and video tribute will be held on Sunday, July 2, 2017 between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block north of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Funeral services will follow Monday morning, July 3, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Assumption Parish - Berst Center, 150 South Kankakee Street in Coal City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Robert Noesen.

Burial will be in Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Braidwood, where Phyllis will be laid to rest with her husband Jack.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Phyllis' memory to the Assumption Parish Building Fund, or to a charity of the donor's choosing.
