Alberta Mae Novy

Age 87 of Wilmington, Illinois died peacefully on Friday, July 18, 2025 in Wilmington, surrounded by her family.

Born May 8, 1938, Alberta Mae was a daughter of Elmer and Lorene (Turner) Moore. She was raised and educated in Christopher, Illinois, and then moved to Wilmington where she spent most of her adult life. Alberta worked for Johnson & Johnson Personal Products for 30 years until she retired in 1999.

She was great fan of all sports, cheering on the Chicago Bears, Northwestern University, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, as well as the Wilmington Wildcats. But no team was more important to Alberta than the Chicago Cubs, and she was so happy when she was able to celebrate their 2016 World Series. Above all else, she loved being with her family. Alberta loved her children and especially her grandchildren, making sure to spend as much time with them as possible and attended all of their activities. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.

Survivors include one son, David (Ann) Hill of Wilmington, one daughter-in-law, Linda Engel of Braidwood, Illinois, and one daughter, Alecia (Kevin) Ptacek of Wilmington; eight grandchildren: Brittany (Lawrence) Painter, Jakob (Fiancé: Lexi Bucciarelli) Hill, Ashley (Brian) Wandless, Brooke (Corey) Minchuk, Nik (fiancé: Jen Viverito) Cunitz, Ryan Alexander, Bret (fiancé: Ashley Dingillo) Ptacek, and Ryannon (Michael) Sims; as well as many great grandchildren and numerous extended family.

Alberta was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Charles Cunitz, and several brothers and sisters.

A graveside service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery, 700 Williams Street, in Wilmington on Thursday, July 24, 2025 at 11:00 a.m.
