Age 78 of Diamond, Illinois, died unexpectedly on Monday, October 21, 2024 at his home.
Born January 23, 1946 in Capacho, Mexico, Alphonso Gilberto was a son of Alejandro and Catalina (Ortiz) Diaz. He lived in Mexico until he was twelve when his family came to the United States and eventually settled in Coal City. Al then served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era, serving two combat tours. He received his honorable discharge in 1968, and in 1970 he married Concheta Adams in Chicago, and together they would make their home in Goose Lake for over 40 years.
Al worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company in Joliet for 35 years until he retired, and was a past member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Coal City. He also held membership with St. Juvin Post #1336 VFW in Coal City and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge in Joliet, Illinois. Al truly enjoyed being outdoors at the Goose Lake Club or the Coal City Area Club, and took great pleasure in hunting, fishing, and being out on the water boating. He was a generous man, always willing to lend a hand where needed, and will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.
