Age 90 of Coal City, Illinois died peacefully at his home on his 90th birthday, August 14, 2023.

Born August 14, 1933 in the family home in Harrisonville, Felix Township, Grundy County, William Robert was a son of Paul and Fannie (Small) Reuter. He was raised in Coal City and graduated from Coal City High School with the Class of 1951. He went on to honorably serve in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict; held his first job with Illinois Clay Products and later gained employment with Amoco Chemical Company in Channahon, from where he retired.

On July 23, 1960, Bill married Shirley Farrero in Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City and together they made a home and raised their children in Coal City. He was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Coal City; belonged to the Coal City Area Club, and was a former member of the South Wilmington Fireman’s Club. Bill was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs; enjoyed working crossword puzzles, and took pleasure in passing the time watching cowboy and western films. He enjoyed working in his yard over the years, and cherished the time he was able to spend with his family and grandkids.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley; son, Dave (Elizabeth) Reuter of Mechanicville, New York; four grandchildren: Hunter Simon, Carissa Simon, Michael Reuter and Isabella Reuter; one sister, Helen Barra of Coal City; son-in-law, Tom Simon of Verona and brother-in-law, Rick (Paula) Farrero of Carbon Hill, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lisa Simon, and siblings: Evelyn (John) Stevenson, Anna Mae (Earl) Leach, John Reuter and RuthAnn Reuter.

Cremation rites have been accorded.

The family welcomes friends to join together for a Mass of Christian Burial at Assumption Catholic Church, 215 South Kankakee Street in Coal City in Thursday, August 17, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. Reverend Josh Miller will preside with Deacon Bill Dunn assisting.

Immediately following the Mass, Military Honors will be rendered, and all in attendance are invited to join together for a Memorial Meal at the Berst Center.

Bill will be laid to rest in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery at a later date.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Bill’s memory to Assumption Catholic Church or to the National Kidney Foundation.
