Bob Soukup, Sr.

Age 95 of Coal City, Illinois, formerly of Chicago, Illinois, died Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at his home.

Born September 28, 1928 in Chicago, Robert Joseph was a son of Joseph and Mary Soukup. He was raised and educated in Chicago, and at the age of 17 he enlisted in in the United States Navy where he served honorably between 1945 to 1947. Bob married his wife, the late Dorothy Ann Swartz, and together they made their home and raised their family in Chicago.

He was a fire fighter for 35 years with the Chicago Fire Department, stationed with Engine 34 and was a member of the Chicago Fire Fighters Union. Upon retirement, Bob would eventually settle in Coal City where he was able to enjoy nature and wildlife. He loved to cook and watch movies, as well as listening to music and singing. Bob understood the meaning of putting in a hard day's work, always working on something around the house well in to his eighties. And above all else, he always tried to make sure that those he loved were taken care of.

Survivors include his three grandchildren: Cassandra and Krystalene Anciulis, both of Coal City, and Nicolette (fiance Daniel) Anciulis of Florida; one brother, Edward (the late Alice) Soukup of Tinley Park, Illinois, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary, and his wife, Dorothy Soukup; as well as his brothers and sisters: Marie (John) Miglin, Bernice (Frank) Konfrst, Arlene (John) Morgucz, Anna (Henry) Dusak, Alice (Frank) Dudzik, Betty (Tony) Bogden, Grace (Robert) Sutherland, Lorraine (Raymond) Del Lango, and George (Lorraine) Soukup.

Per Bob's wishes, cremation rites are being accorded.

Private memorial services will be held, and Bob will be laid to rest at Bohemian National Cemetery in Braidwood, Illinois with his wife, Dorothy.

Family and friends are encouraged to sign the online guest book, upload photographs, and share Bob's memorial page via social media.

Cremation services and memorial arrangements have been made under the direction and care of Reeves & Baskerville Funeral Homes and Crematory in Coal City (815) 634-2125.
