Carey Alan Downey, 48, of Morris, Illinois passed away unexpectedly Saturday, February 18, 2023 at his home. Born November 27th, 1974, he was the son of the late Richard (Rick) and Karen Downey. In 2012, Karen married Harold (Mike) Keating, who became like a second father to Carey. Karen and Mike also preceded Carey in death.
He is survived by his sons, Richard James Downey, William Joseph Downey, and Colton Stevenson, Crystal Ehrler-the mother of his twin boys and former wife, his grandmother Inza Downey, his sister Beth (Ralph) Alvarez, aunts and uncles, Jody (Richard) Guske, Brenda (Eric) Leake, Fran Kjellesvik, Jim (Brenda) Downey, special niece and nephews Aaron (Tatianna) Markle, Jesse, Brandon, Alex and Emily Alvarez, and cousins, Eric Peterson, Tim (Bethany) Kjellesvik, Andy Kjellesvik, Maggie (Jordan) and Connor Leake.
He was a longtime employee of Northfield Block.
Carey was an avid angler, stubborn Norwegian, and passionate outdoorsman. And like a true mushroom hunter, took his secret honey hole spots with him. He had an uncanny ability to see the good in others, but unfortunately, not in himself. He would do anything for his friends and family and loved his boys fiercely.
Carey had no fame or notoriety, but for those fortunate enough to be in his world, we can testify to his genuine warmth, wry humor, and the subtle-yet-profound ways he cared for those he loved. He was a calm river whose surface concealed deep waters and strong currents. His passing leaves a mighty wake in our hearts.
