Carl Lohmar, Jr.

Age 88, of Deerfield Florida, formerly of Coal City, Illinois, died on Friday, December 5, 2025, at his home.

Born August 25, 1937, in Joliet, Illinois, Carl was the son of Frank and Ann Marie (Granger) Lohmar. He grew up in Coal City and graduated from Coal City High School with the Class of 1955. He went on to earn a master’s degree from Illinois State University.

Carl spent his career in education, teaching for many years at Gardner High School and later in the Thornridge School District. He was a dedicated teacher who took pride in his work and valued learning.

Outside of the classroom, Carl had a wide range of interests. He enjoyed gardening and took particular care in tending to his flowers. He loved spending time on the water, whether on his ski boat or his larger fishing boat. Cooking was another passion, and he once helped run the Feed Bag restaurant alongside his mother. He also enjoyed the arts, especially theater and opera, and appreciated his time living in Chicago. Carl had a lifelong love of animals, and his pets were an important part of his life.

Carl is survived by his brother, Terry (Marsha) Lohmar, of Coal City; nieces and nephews: Christine (Jim) Seerup of Coal City, Kimberly (Dave) Treamer of Wisconsin, Donna (Jeff) Halliday of Coal City, and Debbie Burger of Coal City; uncle, Don (Pat) Lenzie of Gardner, Illinois; special friend and caretaker, Christian Chaparro; and many cousins, nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Carol (Frank) Williams; grandparents: Dom (Jennie) Lenzie, and William (Anna) Lohmar; nephew: Thomas Williams, and great nephew, Aaron Burger. 

Per the families wishes cremation rites are being accorded.

A private family service will take place at a later date, and Carl will be laid to rest at Braceville-Gardner Cemetery in Braceville, Illinois alongside his parents.
