Age 73 of Joliet, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 7, 2023.
Born on January 17, 1950 in Joliet, Illinois, Carole Anne was the daughter of Ernest and Ursula (Korelc) Hazelton, and grew up in Wilmington, Illinois, surrounded by love and support.
Carole embarked on her educational journey at St. Rose Catholic School and later graduated from Wilmington High School with the Class of 1968. After completing her studies, she began her professional endeavors at the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant. However, it was her employment at the Joliet Police Department that truly defined her career.
With unwavering dedication and determination, Carole served within the Joliet Police Department for over 30 years. Her selflessness and commitment made a significant impact on the community she served. Carole became a well-respected member of the department and left an indelible mark on the lives she touched throughout her service.
Upon reaching retirement, Carole concluded her extensive career with the Joliet Police Department, leaving behind a legacy built on integrity, compassion, and professionalism.
Outside of work, Carole enjoyed her circle of friends in which she took pleasure in going to lunch with and spending time. She loved to shop; was a life-long fan of General Hospital, and will be remembered as an avid advocate for animals. Carole’s family was important to her, and her nephew, niece, great nieces and great nephews gave her great pride.
Survivors include her nephew, Dave Hazelton (Tammy Kahler); niece, Diane (Glen) Earls, both of Wilmington; great nephews and great nieces: Mitch Hazelton of Wilmington, Steffanie (Austin) Whitely of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Jake Hazelton of Wilmington, Jessica (Jeremy) Penfield of Ottawa, and Ben Hainline and Will Hainline, both of Wilmington; one great-great niece, Stella; two great-great nephews: JR and Weston, and numerous cousins and extended family members, as well as friends.
Carole was preceded in death by her parents, and brother and sister-in-law: Bill and Kathleen Hazelton.
The family will receive friends for a visitation at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington on Thursday, October 12, 2023 between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow Friday, October 13th at 12:30 p.m. in St. Rose Catholic Church, 604 S. Kankakee Street in Wilmington, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Rev. Sebastian Gargol presiding.
Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Wilmington, where Carole will be laid to rest with her brother and sister-in-law.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Carole’s memory to an animal shelter or rescue of the donors’ choosing.
