Carolyn Stamets

Age 82 of Elwood, Illinois and formerly South Holland, Illinois, died Thursday, March 30, 2023 at Northwestern Memorial Palos Hospital in Palos Heights, Illinois.

Born January 30, 1941 in Hammond, Indiana, Carolyn was a daughter of A. Albert and Hester (Ball) Lindquist. She was raised in the Hegewisch Neighborhood of Chicago and graduated from Bowen High School with the Class of 1959. On June 3, 1961, Carolyn married Stanley Stamets in Lebanon Lutheran Church in Chicago.

Carolyn was a 35 year member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in South Holland, and active with the Thornwood High School Band, where she was known as the doughnut and hotdog lady to many kids throughout the years.

She was employed as a school bus driver for 20 years, and when out of school, Carolyn loved traveling and participating in ‘out of the box’ activities. She enjoyed rock hunting, art fairs and jewelry shows, but nothing gave her greater joy than being a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Survivors include her sons: Russell (Reena) Stamets of New Delhi, India and Donald (Barbara) Stamets of Addison, Illinois; four grandchildren: Tristan, Matthew, Freya and Thomas; one sister, Lisa (Steve) Buccellato of Ft. Myers, Florida and extended family in Sweden.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stanley; half sister, Betty Kavanaugh and half brother, Marion Forest Gregory.

Per Carolyn’s wishes, cremation rites were accorded, and she was privately laid to rest with her late husband, Stanley in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.

Family, friends, and neighbors are invited to attend a celebration of Carolyn's life at the Lloyd Erickson Park Pavilion, 801 N. Chicago Street in Elwood at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2023.
