Cathy VanWinsen

Age 48 and a lifelong resident of Godley, Illinois, was called home to heaven on Saturday April 30, 2022.

Born November 3, 1973 in Joliet, Illinois, Cathy Lynn was a daughter of Edward Thomas, Sr. and Gloria Jean (Olson) VanWinsen. She was raised in Godley, and graduated from Reed Custer High School. Cathy was a loving little sister, aunt and great aunt. She enjoyed being with her family and friends, and one of her favorite things to do was to ride her bike. Cathy would regularly ride to the Godley Park District where she could hang out with friends and participate in the various events and trips. Her favorite part of life was shopping with her sisters, and she had a special place in her heart and loved joking with her brothers.

Survivors include her siblings: Angie (Jerry) Krug of Godley, Mary (Dave) Burks of Odell, Eddie, Jr. (Gina) VanWinsen of Wilmington, Thomas VanWinsen of Godley, David VanWinsen of Odell, and Carol (Curt) Richmond of Braidwood; nieces and nephews: Dan (Brandy) Krug, Alissia (Jeff) Hood, Rusti (Eddie) Rice, Tim (Stacy) VanWinsen, Leland Thweatt, Nick McGee, Colette (Jonathon) VanWinsen, Lakin (Chris) VanWinsen, Mackenzie VanWinsen, Zach VanWinsen, Kayla Richmond, Brian Richmond; numerous great nieces and great nephews, and three uncles: Dale (Betty) VanWinsen, Joe Olson and Paul Olson, as well as numerous cousins.

Cathy was preceded in death her parents: Edward (1986) and Gloria (2008); grandparents: Harold and Zelda VanWinsen and Joseph and Angeline Olson, and a great nephew Cree.

She will be missed by all that knew her.

The family will receive friends for a visitation at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 N. Broadway (one block north of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services

Family and friends are invited to again gather on Friday, May 6, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Wilmington for graveside services. It is here that Cathy will be laid to rest with her parents. Pastor Jeff Urban will officiate, and a celebration of Cathy's life will follow the cemetery committal.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Cathy’s memory to her family for their distribution.
