Charles T. Vedder, Sr.
“Chuck”
Age 96 of Wilmington, passed away Monday August 26, 2019 at his home.
Born April 25, 1923 in Beardstown, Illinois, Charles Thomas was a son of George and Mae (nee Kirchner) Vedder. He was raised and educated in Wilmington and graduated from Wilmington High School. Chuck proudly served in the United States Navy, and after a two year stint in the Chicago White Sox organization, he became a plumber with Local Union 130 and was a fifty year member. He also served for several years as a fireman with Uniroyal.
Chuck was a member of the Wilmington VFW Post 5422 and the A.F. & A.M. Lodge 208. His favorite times were spent outdoors fishing and hunting. Chuck also enjoyed playing and coaching baseball, as well as traveling.
Survivors include his grandson: Zachary Vedder (Jessica Dominguez) of Brighton, Colorado; his three nephews: George, Mark, and Greg Vedder, and his best friend: Les Russell.
Chuck was preceded in death by his son: Charles T. Vedder, Jr., and his brother: George Vedder.
Per Chuck’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.
Military honors and inurnment will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood on Friday, October 4, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends wishing to attend are encouraged to assemble at the cemetery welcome center by 10:45 a.m.
