Obituary

Cheryll Ann Mitchell

Age 75 of Wilmington, IL, formerly of Cicero, Illinois and Indiana, died peacefully on Sunday, March 22, 2026 at her residence, surrounded by family and friends.

Born December 14, 1950 in Terre Haute, IN, Cheryll Ann was the daughter of Donald Edward Purcell and Flora Mary (Gianneschi) Roy. She was raised in Cicero until her family relocated to Terre Haute where she graduated from Garfield High School with the Class of 1968. Cheryll was blessed with wonderful upbringing and to be raised in a loving home.

She worked for many different establishments throughout Indiana in her career, notably Tom, Dick & Harry's, LaRue's Restaurant, and for many years with the Little Italy Festival in Clinton, IN. Cheryll briefly worked for the Rustic Inn in Wilmington, before moving back to Indiana and gaining employment as the Lead Cook with the Jackson Township Elementary School. She loved flowers and was very happy to work as the Lead Florist at Kroger after she retired from the school district. Cheryll was a proud American and active member of the American Legion Auxillary at Post 104 in Terre Haute.

She was a very active person who liked to stay busy, with a colorful personality and a wicked sense of humor. Cheryll was very creative and enjoyed expressing herself through painting and crafting. She greatly enjoyed going to craft shows, but being with her friends and family is what brought her the most joy. Cheryll always had a hug and a kiss for anyone, whether they wanted it or not, and was affectionately known as "Meem" to many that knew and loved her. She had a positive lookout on life, always telling people to never take anything for granted. Cheryll was a mother, grandmother, "Meem", sister, aunt, bartender, cook, friend...a true Jill-of-all-trades, and will be missed dearly now that she is gone.

Survivors include her children: John Michael (Christine Moretti) Spell of Vero Beach, FL, Cheri Joan (Curt) Haase of Clinton, IN, and James McClellan (Tamara) Mitchell of Tyndall Air Force Base, FL, as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; one brother, Charles Edward Purcell of Terre Haute, IN, and several nieces and nephews.

Cheryll was preceded in death by her parents, and one great grandson: Grayson.

Per her wishes, flameless cremation rites are being accorded, and a Celebration of Life is being planned at the American Legion Post 104 in Terre Haute.

Family and friends are encouraged to log onto www.BaskervilleFuneral.com to sign the guest book, upload photographs and share Cheryll's memorial page online through social media.
