Age 72 of Coal City, passed away Tuesday evening, August 24, 2021 at his home.

Born November 30, 1948 in Joliet, Illinois, Chester James was a son of Chester William and Jewel R. (Schultz) Davito. He was raised in Braidwood; graduated from Reed Custer High School with the Class of 1966, and went on to major in music at Eastern Illinois University. On June 10, 1972, Chet married Pat Ryan in Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City, and together they made a home and raised a family together.

Chet retired from BP Amoco after 30 years of service; was a member of the Coal City Area Club, the Coachman Car Club and formerly belonged to the Braidwood Recreation Club, where he served on the board for golfing and fishing.

Chet loved the outdoors and took pleasure in hunting and fishing, as well as riding dirt bikes and motorcycles. He enjoyed being on the pontoon at the area club, and spending time with his grandkids.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Pat; three children: Christine (Dan), Kate and Jake (Spencer); four grandchildren: Sammy, Danny, Callie and Forrest; one sister, Jewelann (Mike) Grace; his mother-in-law, Joan Ryan; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Kathy (the late Jerry) Butz, Jean (Bob) Jacovec, Harold (Anita) Ryan, Mike (Theresa) Ryan and Jim (Vicky) Ryan, and numerous nieces and nephews, including, Frank (Cindy) Davito.

Chet was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Frank Davito, Sr. and his father-in-law, Harold Ryan.

The family will receive friends for a visitation on Saturday, August 28, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral service 12:00 p.m. at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block north of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Deacon William Dunn from Assumption Parish will preside.

Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Wilmington. Pallbearers will be: Jake Davito, Roger Patterson, Jim Ryan, Mike Ryan, Fred Ruetz, Frank Davito and Bob Jacovec.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Chet’s memory to the Assumption Building Fund, 195 S. Kankakee Street, Coal City, IL 60416 or to Lightways Hospice.
