Clyde "Red" Taylor

Age 85 of Braidwood, Illinois died peacefully on Sunday morning, February 11, 2024 at his home.

Born and initially named "Murrie" on September 18, 1938 in Ozark, Illinois, Clyde Eugene was a son of Cecil and Kate (Thomas) Taylor. He attended Wooten Grade School and Golconda High School.

In 1955, Red embarked on his career with Caterpillar Tractor Company, from where he retired in 1987 following 32 years of service. Following his retirement in 1988, Red went on to establish Taylor Transport, which he successfully ran until formally retiring in 2000.

Remembered for his love of companionship to his feline buddy, Blacktop, Red leaves behind a legacy of strong work ethic and life-long hard work. 

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Betty (nee Lewis); children: Don Taylor, Janet (Bobby) Lopez, Tom (Julie) Taylor, Jeff Taylor and Trampas DeOlles; brothers: John (Rae) Taylor, Ronnie (Roberta) Taylor and Bob Taylor, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Red was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Kate Taylor; sister, Wanda Taylor Stapleton and brothers: Lewis Taylor and Gary Taylor.

The family will receive friends for a visitation at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington on Thursday, February 15, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. until time of funeral service 6:00 p.m.

Cremation rites will be accorded following the service, and a private family inurnment will take place in Oakwood Sunset Cemetery, where Red will be laid to rest.
