David Carlton Brannon, age 74 of Diamond, Illinois and formerly of Seymour and Jefferson City, Tennessee peacefully passed away surrounded by his Family and loved ones on Friday, August 11, 2023 at Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care in Joliet, Illinois.

Born January 10, 1949 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, David Carlton is a son of Ralph and Margaret Carlton (Maggio) Brannon. He was raised in Seymour, Tennessee until the age of two then lived in Jefferson City, Tennessee from the age of two until he was nine.  His family then moved to Coal City, Illinois.  David graduated from Harrison Chilhowee Baptist Academy in 1967 then served in the United States Marine Corps starting in August of 1967 during Vietnam.  He was awarded several medals including two Purple Hearts and a Silver Star. On July 24, 1987 David married Joy Joan Sempert at the First Baptist Church in Wilmington, Illinois.  David and Joy lived in Morris, Illinois for many years where they raised their family and then as empty nesters moved to Diamond, Illinois.

David worked as the owner of Tar Baby Roofing in Las Vegas, Nevada and Morris, Illinois before changing careers driving as an owner/operator for Trucking for Joy and later CRST Transport.    

David was an avid reader, loved crossword puzzles, dancing with Joy and spending time with the grandkids.  He enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and the Green Bay Packers as well as listening to rock n' roll music from the 60's, especially Elvis, whom he saw 5 times.  He was especially fond of sail boats.  

Survivors include his wife, Joy Brannon of Diamond; six children: Jeff-David Brannon of Texas, Davina (Bryan) Mosley of Manchester, Tennessee, Kelly (Mike) Olson of Bloomington Illinois, Amanda (Jeff) Pritchett of Richlands, North Carolina, Sarah (Josh) Schroeder of Minooka, Illinois and Jennika (Justin) Buggar of Kenney, Illinois.  

David is also survived by thirteen grandchildren: Christian Coulson, Tommy Lawson, Austin Brannon, Maia and Ella Olson, Austin, Samuel and Hannah Pritchett, Grayson, Lucy and Evelyn Schroeder and Carson and Brannon Buggar; two great grandchildren; four sisters: Nancy (Darrell) Rankins, Barbara (Tom) Suiter, Ruth Joy Gentry, Vicki (Bill) Thomason; two brothers: Ed Brannon and Bill (Kayrn) Brannon; many nieces and nephews; good friends Armando Esparza, Walt and Aaron Kapaun and Gloria Smith.  

David was preceded in death by his parents; sister: Mary Lucinda Brannon; brother Robert Kenneth Brannon and special friend Steve Smith.  

Cremation services have been accorded.  

The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation at Reeves Funeral Home Ltd., 75 North Broadway Street in Coal City on Sunday August 27, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at 4:00 with Reverend Bill Thomason officiating.  

David will be laid to rest in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery with full military honors Monday, August 28, 2023 at 9:30 a.m.
