Age 66 of Rockdale, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 16, 2019.

Born September 18, 1952 in Clarksville, Tennessee, David Gerald was a son of Elijah and Willie Mae (Black) Carter. He was raised and educated in Joliet and attended Laraway High School. David proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. After his time in the service he worked as a driver in the trucking industry and most recently for Tony K. Trucking Company. In his free time David enjoyed riding motorcycles, watching Nascar and owning and riding horses. He will be most remembered for his love of family and friends. Anywhere David went, he made sure everyone was having a good time.

Survivors include his son, Dave (Diane) Carter of Wilmington, grandson: D.J. (Johanna Sandeno) Carter of Odell; great-grandson: Lucas Jacob Carter; sister: Jane (Bob) Wilkinson of Macomb and brother: Dennis (Linda) Carter of Rio Vista, Texas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents, grandson: Cody Carter; brother: Jimmy Carter; sister: Annie Thrasher; brother-in-law: Bob Thrasher and nephew: Billy Thrasher.

Family will receive friends for a visitation and video tribute on Monday, January 21, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington. Funeral services will follow on Tuesday morning, January 22, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Pastor Brad Shumaker will officiate.

Burial with full military honors will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made as gifts in David's memory to the family for their distribution.
