Diane Theresa Hoffman
Age 78, of Joliet, Illinois, died Friday, June 19, 2026, at her residence with her family by her side.
Born on October 31, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, Diane was a daughter of Samuel and Dolores (Schraeder) Hoffman. Throughout her childhood, she attended local Chicagoland schools and graduated from Main South High School with the Class of 1965.
Diane dedicated her early years to raising her family, creating a loving home and always putting the needs of others before her own. Once her family was established, she pursued a lifelong dream of completing her bachelor’s degree in accounting, which she earned in 1996. Her perseverance and hard work opened the door to a successful career as a corporate accountant with World Kitchen, where she remained a valued employee until retiring in 2013.
In her younger years, Diane found joy in cooking, sewing clothing for her family, and taking her children on regular outings to Six Flags Great America and Magic Waters Waterpark. She also remained actively involved with the Maine East/Maine South High School Class of 1965 Reunion Committee, helping to foster lasting friendships and connections throughout the years.
Diane embraced life with a spirit of adventure and made the most of every opportunity to explore the world around her. Always interested in seeing the world near and far, she had a deep love for travel and welcomed new experiences wherever her journeys took her. Among her favorite adventures were casino nights in Laughlin, Nevada, with her dear friend Joan, traveling to exciting destinations such as Belize and Peru, and enjoying cruises to Portugal, Australia, and Russia. Closer to home, she especially treasured trips to Mackinac Island and the opportunity to witness the 2024 solar eclipse. Whether traveling across the globe or enjoying memorable experiences closer to home, Diane embraced every adventure with enthusiasm and joy.
Diane also had a lifelong fondness for amusement and water parks, creating many memories at Disneyland, Walt Disney World, Tokyo Disneyland, Universal Studios Hollywood, and Splash Station Joliet. She was also a devoted dog lover and adored her two golden retrievers, Sandy and Ginger, who brought her years of companionship, happiness, and unconditional love. When she was not out making adventures with her family, she could often be found spending quiet evenings at home watching favorite television programs such as Survivor, The Amazing Race, and various crime dramas.
Diane was a remarkable woman whose strength, love, and devotion to her family defined her life. Fiercely protective, she would do anything for her children and held a special devotion to her partner, Jim. Many holidays were spent alongside Jim's family cooking and socializing, as well as casual outings to classic car shows. She treasured the role of grandmother and held a deep love for her grandchildren who lovingly called her “Nonny.” She carried a special place in her heart for them and cherished the moments they were able to share together. Diane was a beautiful woman whose strength and kindness reflected the true character of a class act lady. Driven by a curious spirit and an independent mind, she was never afraid to break traditional molds and forge her own path. Her tenacity, determination, and vibrant personality made her a force to be reckoned with, while her love of fun and adventure brought joy to those around her. Diane's presence was both comforting and inspiring, and the love and strength she shared will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Diane is survived by her loving companion Jim Virklan of Joliet; three children: Jodi James of Eugene, Oregon, Tony (Karen) James of Shorewood, Illinois, and Tracy (Matthew Berenty) James of Eugene; and two grandchildren: Cameron and Audrey James of Shorewood.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Sam Hoffman Jr.; three aunts: Theresa “Tessie” (Frank) Land, Eleanor (Floyd) Benson, Mildred “Millie” (William) Reiter, and special friend Joan Barton.
