Age 95 of Coal City, passed away Thursday, December 26, 2019 at The Pointe at Morris.

Born June 30, 1924 in Spirit Lake, Idaho, Dolores Jean was a daughter of Harland Emerson and Hazel (McCheyne) Finch. She was raised and educated in Spokane, Washington and spent her career working in Tehama County, California. Following employment in various capacities at both KBLF and KPAY Radio Stations, Dee worked as a clerk for the board of supervisors for Tehama County before her employment at Tehama County Fairgrounds from where she retired.

Dee moved from California to Coal City in the late 1980’s and soon became a dedicated member of New Hope Presbyterian Church. In her free time, Dee enjoyed tole painting, traveling both domestic and abroad and reading. She will also be remembered as a master gardener.

Survivors include her three children: Robin Lee (Jerry) Clayton of Bartlett, Buz (Jeannie) Smoots of Summit, Mississippi, and Harland “Terry” (Vickie) Smoots of Coal City; three step-sons: Fred (Dawna) Baumgarten of Arizona, Lee (Holly) Baumgarten of California, and Earl (Jan) Baumgarten of Idaho; five grandchildren: William Corey Clayton, Frank Clayton, Amanda Davis, Jennifer Munsterman, and Kira Schmitt; several step-grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Dee was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Willard F. Baumgarten in 1976.

Per the family’s wishes, green flameless cremation rights have been accorded.

A private family memorial service will be held in New Hope Presbyterian Church in Coal City.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Dee’s memory to: New Hope Presbyterian Church in Coal City or to the American Heart Association.
