Age 88, of Elwood, Illinois, and formerly of Naperville, Illinois, died Friday evening, November 1, 2024, at Ascension Villa Franciscan in Joliet, Illinois.

Born in Chicago on July 14, 1936, Don was a twin son of Edward and Cecilia (Pacsik) Malkowski. Orphaned at a young age, Don and his twin brother, Ronald, grew up at Glenwood School for Boys, where they received their education and strong sense of discipline and community. The brothers both went on to serve as military police in the U.S. Army, embodying honor and dedication until their honorable discharge.

In 1956, Don married the love of his life, Nancy Shiltz. Together, they settled in Naperville and welcomed their son, Andrew. Despite the heartbreaking loss of Andrew, Don and Nancy continued their journey of parenthood by fostering Timothy Harvey, who became their son and survives him today.

Don built a career as a skilled bricklayer, working with Bricklayers & Allied Crafts Local 74 and joining RamCorp, Inc. in Wilmington, Illinois, where he remained until his retirement. His craft was his pride, and his dedication extended beyond his career into his personal life. He was a member of the Wilmington Moose Lodge #241 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles East Joliet Arie 3585.

Known for his deep love of the outdoors, Don found solace in the beauty of nature, spending countless hours hunting, fishing, and meticulously caring for his yard. He was an avid reader, consuming novels and periodicals alike, and a lifelong fan of the Chicago Bears. His boundless energy was matched only by his loyalty to those he loved, especially his brother Ron, with whom he shared many adventures.

Don Malkowski leaves behind a legacy of hard work, resilience, and love for family and friends. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him as a devoted husband, father, loving companion, brother, dedicated craftsman, and a man who truly knew how to embrace life.

Survivors include his loving companion of 16 years, Cynthia Cullen of Elwood; son, Timothy Harvey (Cathy Richardson) of Paw Paw, Illinois, and one nephew, Randy Malkowski of Downers Grove.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; son Andrew (1989); wife, Nancy (2001) and brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Carol Malkowski.

Per Don’s wishes cremation rites are being accorded.
