Doris Ann Davis  (Choate - Hodo)

Age 71 of Ellington, Missouri and formerly of Lockport and Wilmington, Illinois, passed away Tuesday afternoon, June 5, 2018 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

Born November 24, 1946 in Lonoke, Arkansas, Doris Ann was a daughter of Clarence Newton and Alva Lee (Henderson) Choate. At the age of 11, Doris moved with her family from Lonoke to the Chicago, Back of the Yards neighborhood, and she went on to graduate from Gage Park High School with the Class of 1964. Doris moved to Lockport in 1972, and worked as a waitress and bartender spanning the years at Glen Eagles Country Club in Lemont, George’s Restaurant and Pagoda House, both in Lockport, as well as Harrah’s Casino in Joliet. On June 2, 1997, Doris married Ronald E. Davis in Joliet, and together they relocated to Ellington, Missouri, where they made their home.

Doris had a love for flowers, music and hummingbirds. She took pleasure in RV camping as well as trying her luck at bingo and gambling at the casinos. Remembered as one of the Chicago Cubs biggest fans, it didn’t overshadow her family, which was always her number one priority.

Survivors include her husband Ronald Davis; two daughters: Rhona Hodo (David Reichel) and Christy Hodo (Dean McWilliams), both of Wilmington; step children: Ronald (Kelly) Davis of Crown Pointe, Indiana, Sherise (Mark) Lopez of Monee, Illinois, and Daniel (Stacy) Davis of Hebron, Indiana; her daughter-in-law, Tammy Hodo of Wilmington; grandchildren: Jacob Snyder, Jordan Joplin, Shelby Leonardo, Ashley Schroeder, Brandee Schroeder (Alex Fullriede), Stephen Cotham, Jeremy Cotham, Jacob Cotham, Kyle Davis, Nicole Davis, Cameron Lopez, Colby Lopez, Bradley (Holly) Davis, Diana Davis, Kya Davis, Gavin Davis and Milania McWilliams; great grandchildren: Alexander Snyder, Jonathan Snyder, Connor Joplin, Noah Fullriede, Adelynn Cotham, Mason Cotham, Milo Davis and Dominic Davis; her sister, Judy (Jim) Walton of Lockport, and brother, Jim Choate (Pam) and sister-in-law, Patricia Choate, both of DeValls Bluff, Arkansas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; son Bobby Hodo; brother, Homer Choate and sister-in-law, Philomena Choate.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 9, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. until time of funeral service 4:00 p.m. at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington.

In the spirit of Doris’ love of the Chicago Cubs, family and friends attending the visitation and service are encouraged to wear their favorite Cubs attire.

Per Doris’ wishes, cremation rites will be accorded following the services.
