Age 91 of Coal City, Illinois and a longtime resident of Momence, Illinois, died Saturday, May 14, 2022 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, Illinois.

Born June 23, 1930 in Joliet, Illinois, Dorothy June was the 10th of 14 born to Charles Joseph and Gertrude Evelyn (Howard) Haldorson. At the age of 4, June moved from Symerton with her family to the family farm which was established on Whitetie Road north of Carbon Hill.

June’s career was that of a homemaker, however also entailed several side jobs throughout the years including interior decorating and hanging wallpaper. She was a longtime member of St. Patrick Catholic Parish in Momence and since returning to Coal City in 2016 has been attending Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Coal City.

On June 19, 1971, June married Leroy Hedgecock in Kankakee, and together the two each had five sons from their respective families. June and Leroy were known to be a helpful couple. Leroy was quite handy, and June was the “C.E.O.” of any kitchen she graced. Together the two enjoyed sharing their labors of love with their children. They truly took pleasure in traveling to the kids homes to not only spend time with family, but to help out any way they could during their visits. June will be most remembered as a doting grandmother, who simply just adored her grandchildren.

Survivors include four sons: Michael Allen Hiller of Dallas, Texas, David Brian (Colette) Hiller of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas, Dennis Patrick (Brenda) Hiller of Kankakee, Illinois and Jeffrey Joseph (Michelle) Hiller of Speedway, Indiana; (11) grandchildren: Alesa (Trevor) Nance of Dallas, Stephen Hiller, Jr. of Crest Hill, Illlinois, Adam (Adrianne) Hiller of Coppell, Texas, Michelle (Bradley) Becker of Dallas, Justin Hiller of New Braunfels, Texas, Nikki (Steve) Patnaude of Kankakee, Trevor Hiller of Coppell, Tyler Hiller of Kankakee, Noel Hiller of Speedway, Ivie Hiller (fiancé, Troy Hickom) of Atlanta, Georgia and Hope Hiller of Madrid, Spain; five great-grandchildren: Kylie, Jackson, Kinsey, Hudson and Melanie; one brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Lela Haldorson of Wilmington, Illinois; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Haldorson of Wilmington and Margaret Haldorson of LaGrange, Illinois; three step-sons: Timothy, Gregory and Douglas Hedgecock, and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as her dear caregiver and friend, Sally Ortiz.

June was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leroy Hedgecock on November 5, 2015; her former husband and the father of her sons: Allen “Hank” Hiller; son, Stephen Paul Hiller; granddaughter, Joli Hiller; brothers: Howard, Charles, Raymond (Betty), Robert (Genevieve), John, George and Clyde; sisters: Elsie (Joe) Skubic, Helen (Harold) Jensen, Betty (Joe) Panish, Alice (Elmer) Wills and Lucille (Royce) Quayle, and two step-sons: Steve and Chris Hedgecock.

The family will receive friends for a visitation at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block north of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City on Thursday, May 26, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow on Friday May 27, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, 215 South Kankakee Street in Coal City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Josh Miller presiding and assisted by Deacon William Dunn.

Burial will follow in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois at 1:00 p.m., where June will be laid to rest with her late husband, Leroy.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in June’s memory in the form of Masses or to the Assumption Building Fund.
