Dorothy C. Turner
Age 96 of Wilmington, Illinois, died Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at Lightways Hospice in Joliet, Illinois.
Born September 3, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois, Dorothy was a daughter of John and Marie (Chalus) Schaefer. She was raised and educated in Chicago, and completed training to become a nurse, working for Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet. Once becoming a mother, Dorothy set aside her career to devote herself to raising her children.
She was a woman of many interests, particularly in regards to fashion and decorating, as well as cooking. Dorothy was always eager to explore new recipes and was famous for her carrot cake. She also loved birds and enjoyed keeping them as pets in her home. Dorothy's sense of humor was iconic and a trait she shared with all of her daughters. Family was the center of her universe, beloved by four generations that she considered her greatest accomplishment. Dorothy gave all of herself to her family, leaving a legacy of love with each of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-grandchildren that will stay in their hearts forever.
Survivors include three children: Barbara Kozlowski of Wilmington, Dorothy (Gerry) Ludtke of Wilmington, and Kathleen Olson of Colorado; (7) grandchildren: Victoria (Win), Celeste (Gerry), Jenny, Charles (Kristina), Gina (Shawn), Angela (David), and Tommy; (14) great grandchildren: Klinton, Rosie, Johnny, Tommy, Robert, Taylor, Spencer, Kyle, Brandon, Ally, Madison, Anthony, Daniel, and Brady; (4) great-great grandchildren: Natalie, Oliver, Inara, and Tommy J; and two sons-in-law: Clinton (Chriss) Murphy and Jerry Johnson.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; three children: Margaret Murphy, Victoria Tash, and Patricia (Richard) Harden; one sister, Margaret Ringenberg, and one brother, John Schaefer, Jr; and one great grandson, Kevin J. Olson.
