Obituary

Duane Earl McComas

Age 75, formerly of Morris, Illinois, of Minooka, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 14, 2026 with his family by his side.

Born on November 3, 1950, in Morris, Duane Earl was a son of Earl and Pearl (Edmunds) McComas. He was raised and educated in Morris and graduated from Morris High School with the class of 1968. On July 15, 1977, Duane married the love of his life, Laurie Rath, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Morris.

Duane dedicated 31 years to serving his community with the Grundy County Sheriff’s Department before retiring in 2018. He was proud of the work he did and the people he served. He was also a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Outside of work, Duane enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved spending time on the golf course and looked forward to days spent on the greens. He also enjoyed traveling with his family and making memories that will last forever. Above all else, Duane treasured his family. His grandchildren brought him so much happiness, and he loved being part of their lives. He was proud of each of them and cherished every moment they shared.

Duane will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him. His family will carry his memory in their hearts.

He is survived by his wife, Laurie; daughter, Monica (Patrick) Zavala of Minooka; grandchildren: Dominyk, Xavier, and Zooey Zavala all of Minooka; brother and sister: Ken McComas of Bloomington, Illinois and Sharon (Bill) FinFrock of Morris; brother and sister-in-law: Josetta Nelson and Ron (Barb) Rath, both of Morris as well as several nieces and nephews.
