Age 64 of Braidwood, Illinois, died Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, Illinois.
Born November 21, 1960 in England, Elizabeth Rose was a daughter of Edward and Kathleen (Latham) Avinger. She was raised in many different cities and countries, and went on to graduate from Fort Walton Beach High School in Florida. Following high school, Liz worked for a TV station in Florida where she met Dale Walsh. They were married on August 15, 1986. They both gained employment with CNN in its infancy, until they relocated to Illinois. It was at this time that Liz devoted herself to her family and raising her children. She took an active role in her children's activities and school life, from coaching volleyball to serving with the Parent Teacher Organizations for them.
The family moved to Braidwood in 2000, and Liz made herself right at home. Over the years, she was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Braidwood, was a member of the Southern Will County Republicans, and served her community as part of the Braidwood Zoning Board and Braidwood Beautification Committee. Liz loved being outdoors, whether it was camping trips to the Braidwood Recreation Club or in her backyard tending to her flowers and listening to music, she was at peace when she was out in the sunshine.
She was the best cook and the most gracious host, entertaining family and friends all the time, especially on Christmas Eve. Liz was a passionate woman who was not afraid to offer her honest opinion, but she also was a reliable, friendly ear when anyone needed someone to listen to them. She was fiercely devoted to her family and was so very proud of her children and grandchildren. Liz lit up the world with her zest for life and commitment to being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, as well as a dear friend and neighbor to so many people who were blessed to have her as part of their lives.
Survivors include her husband, Dale Walsh of Braidwood, and three children: Ricky (Sandra Linares) Franklin of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Dru (Emily) Walsh of Homer Glen, Illinois, and Kaitlin (Pete) Dell'Aquila of Alpharetta, Georgia; eight grandchildren: Azia, Milly, Aiden, Abel, Maren, Jack, Ellis, and Etta, with one more expected in January; and one great granddaughter, Mia; two brothers: Blane (Grady) Avinger of Texas and Tony Avinger of Florida, and one sister, Julie (Travis) Simmons of Florida; two sisters-in-law: Cindy (the late Wayne) Walsh of Braidwood and Laura (Jack) Dolehide of Dubuque, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Liz was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Nicole Walsh-Franklin; her mother and father-in-law: Jack and Lillian Walsh; and her special great aunt, Sybil.
