"Gene"
Age 58 of Godley, passed away Wednesday September 15, 2010 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home in Joliet.
Born May 27, 1952 in Shelbyville, Illinois, Gene is a son of Freddie S. and the Late Margaret Read. He was raised and educated in Wilmington and attended Wilmington High School. Gene was a member of the Wilmington Moose Lodge and the Braidwood Recreation Club. He can be remembered for his love of fishing, woodworking and playing cards and dice. Gene was also known as a great Chicago Bears fan and cherished family gatherings, as well as the time spent with his family and grandkids.
Survivors include his wife Beverly, whom he married April 9, 2005; two children: Becky (Juan) Duran of Godley and David Read of Braidwood; his father Freddie S. Read of Wilmington; two step children Katie McElroy of Godley and William (Rhonda) McElroy of Gardner; eight grandchildren: Richelle Read, Sabrina Duran, Selena Duran, Justin Read, Jadyn Read, Jake Motzny, Alex McElroy and Joey McElroy; one brother Gary (Annamarie) Read of Diamond; brother and sisters-in law: Janet (Jerry) Hicks of Missouri, Barb (Randy) Amone of Mazon and Craig (Lisa) Adams of Braidwood and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as various other close family members and friends.
Gene was preceded in death by his mother Margaret Evelyn Read on June 5, 2010.
The family will receive friends on Monday September 20, 2010 from 4:00PM until time of service 7:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Pastor Avery Wilson from the Coal City First Baptist Church will officiate and a private inurnment at Braceville-Gardner Cemetery will follow at a later date.
