Gayle Schutten

Age 79 and a lifelong resident of Wilmington, Illinois, died Sunday, May 8, 2022 at Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, Illinois.

Born October 20, 1942 in Joliet, Gayle Ann was a daughter of Harold D. and Bertha V. (Johnston) Schutten. She was raised in Wilmington and graduated from Wilmington High School. Following high school, Gayle went on to Beauty school, and made her career as a self-employed Beautician.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wilmington, and was proud to be the owner of the iconic Octagon House in the Wilmington community. Gayle enjoyed cooking, gardening and flowers, and she cherished her nieces and nephews.

Survivors include one brother, Richard Schutten of Wilmington; nieces and nephews: Debbie Lybarger of Joliet, Cyndi Harvey of Braceville, David Pitts and Stephen (Lisa) Pitts, both of Wilmington; Michele (Jeremy) Allott of Florida and Lisa Hendershot of Wisconsin, and great nieces and great nephews: Justin, Marissa, John David, Derek, Nick, Emma, Devin, Abby, Britney, Allison and Destiny.

Gayle was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters: Donna Lybarger and Sharon Pitts.

The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington on Thursday, May 12, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. until the time of memorial service, 7:00 p.m. Reverend Harriette Cross from the First United Methodist Church in Wilmington will officiate.

A private family inurnment will follow in Wesley Cemetery in Ritchie, where Gayle will be laid to rest with her parents.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Gayles’ memory to Kuzma Care Cottage, 635 S. Main Street, Wilmington, IL 60481.
