Age 85 of Coal City, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday July 29, 2006 at his home.

Born February 22, 1921 in Coal City, George was a son of the late Matthew and Mary (Rolando) Gagliardo. He was raised and educated in Coal City and was a veteran of the US Navy. On January 03, 1942, George married Marlene Overright in St. Louis Missouri. George was employed by the Joliet Arsenal and later worked for Peabody Coal Company until his retirement. He was a member of the VFW Post #1336, The United Mine Workers and Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City. George enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, gardening and watching movies in his free time.

Survivors include his two children: Donna (Gerald) Heavens and Lynn Gagliardo, both of Coal City. Four grandchildren: Craig (Heather) Heavens of Plainfield, Julie (Kent) Jensen of Dwight and Tony (Trisha) Gagliardo and Jenny Gagliardo-Lovell, both of Coal City. (7) Great Grandchildren: Hailey and Jared Heavens, Megan and Drew Jensen, Tyler and Connor Huston and Ryan Gagliardo. Two sisters-in-law: Eleanor (the late Leonard) Gagliardo of Coal City and Marcella (the late Ted) Dasen of Michigan; three brothers-in-law: Eldon (Shirley) Overright of Bradley, Verl (Patti) Overright of Bourbonnais and Lester Overright of Dwight, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

George was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marlene in 1995, three sisters: Rose (Fred) Tapella, Josephine (Angelo) Ruffatto and Lucille (John) Salzman and five brothers: Joseph (Bertha) Gagliardo, John (Josephine) Gagliardo, Anthony (Minnie) Gagliardo, Matthew (Mona) Gagliardo and Leonard Gagliardo.

Visitation and Video Tribute will be held on Wednesday August 02, 2006 from 9:00AM until 10:45AM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Funeral services will then follow at 11:00AM in Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Rev. Mike Pennock officiating.

Burial with full military honors will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Braidwood.

Pallbearers will be: Craig Heavens, Julie Jensen, Tony Gagliardo, Jenny Gagliardo-Lovell, Marvin Gagliardo, Norman Gagliardo, Alan Gagliardo and Ricky Gagliardo.
