Georgia Sue Sewall

Age 94 of Elwood, Illinois, died Thursday, October 17, 2024 in Elm Grove, Wisconsin.

Born January 29, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois, Georgia was a daughter of Alois and Vivian (Millard) Haid. She was raised and educated in Downers Grove, Illinois, and on June 24, 1950 she married Robert F. Sewall in Chicago.

Professionally, Georgia contributed her skills to the Chicago Tribune’s advertising department as a sales representative, later serving as an Administrative Assistant at Lewis University. Known for her expertise as a seamstress, she dedicated time to independent work, helping those in need of her craft.

Georgia was a committed community member, attending Elwood Community Church, and taking part in both the Elwood History Club and the Jackson Twilighters Club. Her dedication to local history and honoring the memory of Civil War veterans was notable; she collaborated with the Veteran’s Administration to restore and replace neglected headstones, ensuring these soldiers were remembered with dignity. Additionally, Georgia was passionate about genealogy and enjoyed various hand crafts, particularly cross-stitch and embroidery.

Georgia’s devotion to family, history, and community, along with her love for crafting, left a lasting legacy for all who knew her.
