Obituary

John William Hynds (Jack) died Thursday, November 20, 2025 at his home in Morris, Illinois. Jack was born November 26, 1939 in Morris to William I. Hynds and Jane (Crook) Hynds. Jack attended Immaculate Conception School and graduated from Morris Community High School in 1957. He graduatedfrom the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree and obtained his law degree from the Northwestern University School of Law in 1964. He clerked for Illinois Supreme Court Justice Walter Schaefer for one yearbefore returning to Morris to join his father in the practice of law. Jack practiced law in Morris until his retirement in 2023. He married Karen N. Clausen in 1966 and together they raised three children in Morris.

In addition to practicing law for 59 years, Jack owned several retail stores, developed real estate and was the co-owner of Advantage Realty, Inc. and Advantage Property Management, Inc.

Jack was always active in the community. He served on the board of the Morris Area Public Library. He served on the Morris Hospital Board of Directors from 1971-1980 including as board chairman. In 1994, he co-founded the Morris Hospital Foundation and served as its chairman for 15 years.

Jack was active in and supportive of Immaculate Conception Church. His strong belief in Catholic education and formation led him to devote many rewarding hours to raising scholarship funds for Immaculate Conception School. Jack volunteered at ICS as the boys’ basketball coach. He and Karen organized the first Octoberfest at ICS, which has become a primary fundraising event for the school.

Jack is survived by his wife of 59 years, Karen; his children, Anne (David) Bzdill, John (Jennifer) W. Hynds, Jr., and David N. Hynds; 6 grandchildren, Jeffrey and Meghan Bzdill and Luke, Henry, Carly and Cassie Hynds; and his sister, Anne Gorham. Jack was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at the Fruland Funeral Home, 121 West Jefferson St., Morris, Illinois.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 26, 2025 at Immaculate Conception Church, 600 E. Jackson St., Morris, Illinois with Father Jason Stone presiding and Deacon Paul Jung assisting. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Morris.
