Age 88, of Coal City, Illinois passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Park Pointe Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Morris, under the care of Lightways Hospice.

Born December 20, 1934, in Effingham IL, Jim was the son of Louis and Sara (Moody) Evans. On February 22, 1953, Jim married Berniece Flowers and together they made a home in Braceville, Illinois later moving to Coal City in 1967 where they raised a family of three beloved boys.

Jim's career included working as a mechanic, a Police officer for Braceville & Grundy County, HVAC technician, and Caterpillar Tractor Company from which he retired in 1994 after thirty-two years of dedicated employment with the company. Jim also took great pride in his small side business, "Evans Refrigeration" which he operated in Coal City for many years. In addition he served as a volunteer fireman with the Braceville Fire Department for several years. After retirement, Jim enjoyed camping, traveling, snow birding every winter in Florida and visiting with family and friends, but most importantly spending time with his wife Berniece of 70 years.

Jim always had a great sense of humor, was a great jokester and loved coin and card tricks which he would perform for almost anyone.

Surviving are his children, Randy Evans of Diamond, Larry (Lisa) Evans of Coal City, Robert (Dawn) Evans of Cape Coral, FL; Four grandchildren, Brian (Katie) Evans of Coal City, Erin (Rob) Grogan of Fort Collins, CO, Mark Evans of Coal City, and Emily Evans of St. Louis, MO, and one great-grandchild, Lily Evans of Coal City; along with many nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his parents, and 5 brothers, Wayne, Darald, Donald, Norman, and Richard.

 Committal services will be held Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. in All Saints Cemetery, 1839 Illinois Route 102, Bourbonnais, IL.

Preferred memorials may be made to Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care Joliet, Illinois and the American Cancer Society.

Family and friends are encouraged to sign the online guest book, upload photographs, and share Jim's memorial page via social media.

Funeral services and arrangements have been made under the direction and care of Reeves & Baskerville Funeral Homes and Crematory in Coal City (815) 634-2125.
