James P. Winker

Age 48, of Wilmington, Illinois passed away July 17, 2023 at home due to natural causes. He was born February 10, 1975 to Carol (Bormet) Combes and the late James A. Winker, both of Wilmington.

James grew up in rural Frankfort and moved to Wilmington in 1989. He was a 150 operating engineer, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. James was an avid hunter, gun enthusiast, and loved animals, especially dogs. He enjoyed family outings, especially spending time with his children and all of his nieces and nephews.

He is the loving son of Carol and Floyd Combes, father of Jacob and Samantha, brother of Christy (Thomas) Ziller, Jon (Kristin) Winker, Jason (Annie) Winker, Connie Proctor, Jeff (Joya) Winker, Jeremy Winker, Floyd (Alma) Combes, Kenny (Natalie) Combes, Kirby (Eric) Slafky, Michelle Combes, and Matt (Stephani) Combes. Proud uncle of twelve nieces, twelve nephews, two-great nephews, and one great niece.

He was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents, Peter and Irma Winker and Vernon and Alice Bormet; father, James A. Winker; one brother, Alan Richard; two uncles, Peter Winker and Warren Bormet; one aunt, Francis Ezell; an infant nephew, Zachary Michael Winker; and an infant niece, Sophia Grace Proctor.

A celebration of life will be held at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road, in Wilmington on Sunday, August 6, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 pm. Private interment will be at St. John’s Cemetery in Mokena, Illinois at a later date.

Preferred memorials may be made in Jim’s memory to Kuzma Care Cottage 635 South Main Street Wilmington, Illinois.
