Janet Elaine Vigliocco,86, passed away peacefully on September 24,2025, in Morris, Illinois. Born on March 20, 1939 in Joliet, Illinois, to Delmer and Edith Reeves. She graduated from Joliet Township High School with the Class of 1957.
A voracious reader, Jan’s wide ranging knowledge made her a formidable Jeopardy, Scrabble, and trivia competitor. She delighted in her extensive cookbook collection, reading new cookbooks from cover to cover as if they were a novel. A wonderful cook and baker, Jan’s kitchen was a place of wonderful surprises, as she was always eager to try a new recipe. You never knew what she would be serving, but you always knew it was going to be delicious.
Her talents extended far beyond the kitchen. A skilled seamstress, she lovingly sewed clothes for her grandchildren, especially holiday dresses for her granddaughters. With knitting needles in hand, she knitted afghans, hats, mittens, and sweaters, gifting warmth and comfort to those she loved.
Jan shared 63 beautiful years with her beloved husband,Matt, a union rooted in love, admiration, and partnership. Their story began at Joliet Junior College where a lanky basketball player caught Jan’s eye. They married on January 31, 1959, and built a life that touched many. Early in their marriage, Jan worked for the phone company supporting Matt as he attended the University of Illinois. They raised their family in Coal City, Illinois , where they lived for 25 years before moving to Ellison Bay, Wisconsin in 1985.
After relocating to Wisconsin, Jan enjoyed working seasonally at The Clearing for many years, where she shared her gift of baking. She and Matt wintered in Gulf Shores, Alabama, where they made treasured friendships and memories, but her heart was always happiest in her beloved Door County.
Jan had a quick wit and dry sense of humor. Her remarks and observations never failed to bring smiles to any room. It was a gift she carried with her until her final day. She loved giving thoughtfully chosen books, especially for her grandchildren, encouraging their curiosity and love of learning. Above all, Jan was endlessly proud of her family, finding her greatest joy in their love and accomplishments.
Her creativity, wisdom, and selflessness will be forever treasured by all who loved her.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Cindy(Eric) Lutz and Nancy (Jeff) Hanley; her adoring grandchildren, Molly(John) Erminio, Zachary(Sara) Hanley, Betsy (Matt) Wojciechowski, and Alexandra (Kyle) Wilson; and her great-grandchildren, Luca, Evan, and Wes Erminio, Annaliese and Eli Hanley, and Cullen and Rory Wojciechowski. She was preceded by her parents, her brother Philip(Jan) Reeves and her husband, Matt.
A Celebration of Jan’s life will be held for her immediate family.
