Janet Ridenour

Age 73 of Coal City, Illinois, and formerly of Channahon, Illinois, died Saturday, December 17, 2022 at her home.

Born December 5, 1949 in Mount Vernon, Illinois, Janet Aline was a daughter of Kenneth and Eva (Cole) Crenshaw. She was raised in Mount Vernon until moving with her family to Channahon when she was sixteen. Janet graduated from Minooka High School with the Class of 1967 and earned an Art Scholarship from the University of Illinois.

Janet worked for 42 years in the automotive industry, spending the majority of her career with Talty Cheverolet, Buick and Cadillac in Morris as their office manager. Janet loved her job and everyone she worked with Talty’s, and considered the Talty family part of her extended family. Janet truly made a lasting impression on anyone she met, leaving them with a friendly handshake and pleasant conversation.

Art was always part of Janet’s life and she continued to pursue her passion of art with various mediums into her adult life. Janet was an avid music fan, especially of Garth Brooks, The Beatles and Aerosmith, and she was a member of the Aerosmith Fan Club. She never missed an episode of SWAT and her favorite actor was Shemar Moore.

Janet was a wonderful mother and grandmother who always made time for her family. She would sew clothing for her children and served as a Girl Scout Leader for many years. She was also proud to have initiated the Father Daughter Dance, which continues today. Animals were drawn to Janet, and she had a special attentiveness with birds. She was a strong, intelligent woman who was a fighter on all fronts. Her loving nature, as well as fun disposition will carry on through her family and friends, especially her grandchildren who she had a special relationship.

Survivors include two children: Kimberly Pettis and Christopher (Virginia) Ridenour; five grandchildren: Kyle (Carlie) Riley, Airriana (Nicholas) Wilson, Joseph Ridenour, Alice Ridenour, and Levi Ridenour; one great grandson, Jaxon Wilson; four sisters: Norma Crenshaw, Kyra Crenshaw, Rosemary Ehrman, and Marilyn Stinson; numerous nieces and nephews, including Rhonda Crenshaw and Marissa (Larry) Webber, and several cousins and step-grandchildren.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Charles Ridenour; one granddaughter, Kieran Ridenour, and one grandson, Timothy Ridenour; two brothers: Ronald and Stephen Crenshaw; and two nephews: Kenneth and Robert Crenshaw.

A private family visitation was held, and green flameless cremation rites are being accorded.

The family will recieve friends at Reeves Funeral Home, 408 E. Washington Street (one block east of Illinois Route 47) in Morris, on Saturday, January 7, 2023 from 9:30 AM until time of memorial service at 11:30 AM. Pastor Jay Regennitter will officiate. Following services Janet will be laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery in Morris, alongside her dear nephew, Robert Crenshaw.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Janet's memory to the American Cancer Society.
