Jason Daniel Barker

Age 50 of Coal City, Illinois and formerly of Joliet, Illinois died unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 13, 2024.

Born May 6, 1973, Jason is the son of Donna Barker of Coal City. He was raised in Joliet and graduated from Joliet West High School with the Class of 1991. He was previously employed with NorthPoint Intermodal in Elwood, Illinois.

Remembered as a funny guy with a dry sense of humor, Jason leaves behind a legacy of being a gentle giant who would do anything for anyone. He had a lifelong love for Dungeons and Dragons and took pleasure in reading and disc golf. Jason was a wonderful and engaged father to his son and created many memories cooking, building legos and spending quality time with his boy.

Survivors include his mother, Donna; son, Alex; aunt Barbara and uncle Sam Shaw who was like a father to him; uncle John (the late Carmen) Barker; special cousins: Kristin (Shane) Fitzwater and Samantha (Daniel) Hendry who were like sisters, and Dallas Barker, and Alex’s grandparents: Alex and Christine Klassek, as well as his lifelong best friend, Marc Luksa.

Jason was preceded in death by his grandmother, Edna Barker and one aunt, Billie Ann Johnson.

The family will receive friends for a visitation at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 N. Broadway (one block north of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City on Saturday, February 17, 2024 between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Cremation rites will be accorded following the visitation.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Jason’s memory to the Kidney Foundation or to the American Diabetes Association.
