Age 59, of Kirksville, Missouri, and formerly of Morris, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.
Jeff was born on October 31, 1965, in Morris, Illinois, to Wayne L. McComb and the late Judith (Yasenchak) McComb. He grew up in Grundy County, where he attended Mazon Grade School and later graduated with the Mazon High School Class of 1983.
From an early age, Jeff developed a love for farming, agriculture, and livestock, a passion that shaped his entire career. He began his professional journey with Walker Sales John Deere, working first as a mechanic before moving into sales, where his dedication and skill earned him top regional sales honors for two consecutive years. He went on to serve as Road Commissioner for Norman Township, owned and operated a trucking business, and worked as an auctioneer for more than 26 years with C & M Horse Auction, later continuing his work as an auctioneer after moving to Missouri.
In recent years, Jeff and his significant other, Dawn, established and operated Lazy Creek Ranch in Missouri. Together, they bought, sold, and trained horses, raised livestock, and provided transportation.
Jeff also dedicated time to his community and personal interests. He was a former member of the Morris Moose Lodge, Ducks Unlimited, and the NRA. He enjoyed playing billiards, competing in both the ACS and APA leagues, and was active in both local saddle clubs in Missouri and with the Amish community.
Beyond work and community involvement, Jeff embraced life with energy and enthusiasm. He was an avid snowmobiler who also enjoyed boating, jet skiing, and trail riding. He loved trapshooting, traveling to Wisconsin, and attending sales. Known for his generosity and big heart, Jeff was always ready to help others—especially children. His lifelong love of animals and his tireless work ethic defined him, and he will be remembered as a loving father, as well as someone who never met a stranger and never shied away from hard work.
Survivors include his father, Wayne; his loving companion of many years, Dawn Byers; two children: Joshua (Ashley) McComb and Megan (Tyler) Reding, both of Morris; one grandson, Jaxon Reding with another expected; one brother, Douglas McComb (fiancé Robin Aldridge) of Morris, and one nephew, Alex McComb, as well as Dawn’s mother, Nancy and Dawn’s daughter, Melissa.
Jeff was preceded in death by his mother, Judith and grandparents: Wayne and Agnes McComb and George and Alta Yasenchak.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation at Reeves Funeral Home, 408 East Washington Street (one block east of Illinois Route 47) in Morris on Sunday, September 21, 2025 between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. A private family service will follow, and Jeff will be laid to rest in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery with his mother and grandparents.
