Jerry David Stewart

Age 70 of Wilmington, Illinois died Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at Ascension Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, Illinois, surrounded by his family and loved ones.

Born June 11, 1952 in Glennonville, Missouri, Jerry was a son of Herman Joseph and Marjorie Ann (nee Fitzgerald) Stewart. He was raised and educated in Wilmington and graduated from Wilmington High School with the Class of 1970. Jerry attended Joliet Junior College where he graduated with an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts. He later gained employment as a pipefitter through the Pipefitters Local Unions 422 and 597 until his retirement in 2017.

Jerry was active in Wilmington community, serving as the Wilmington Township Supervisor for over 28 years and was a member of the Wilmington A.F & A.M. Lodge 208. He was also a member of the Double Eagle Club and enjoyed golfing with his golf league. Jerry was a great sports fan who loved the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, and the Joliet Slammers. He took great pleasure in playing the guitar and going for rides on his Goldwing motorcycle.

A sociable man, Jerry loved spending time with his family and friends, and was always up for meeting anyone for breakfast. He had a passion for genealogy and tracing his family’s history. Jerry’s family was the most important thing in his life, and was a proud father and grandfather who cherished the lasting memories made with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Wilma (States) Stewart of Wilmington; two children: Jerry (Lisa) Stewart of Longwood, Florida and Sheryl Stewart of Joliet; two granddaughters: Abigail Grace and Emma Kay Stewart, both of Longwood, Florida; three brothers and three sisters: Joseph (Rolene) Stewart of Columbus, Georgia, Robert (Debbie) Stewart of Stockbridge, Georgia, Charlie (Kathy) Stewart of Braidwood, Illinois, Kathleen (Greg) Fisketjon of Bertoud, Colorado, Betty Jo (Tim) Kelly of Joliet, Illinois, and Florence (Rich) Olmsted of Dunlap, Illinois; one brother-in-law, John Bladorn of Janesville, Wisconsin, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Louis Stewart, and one sister, Marguerite Bladorn.

The family will receive friends for a visitation on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road, in Wilmington from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Masonic Funeral Rites at 12:00 p.m.

Cremation rites will be accorded and Jerry will be laid to rest privately at Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Wilmington.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Jerry’s memory to the Wilmington A.F. & A.M. Lodge 208.
