Jerry Wilson

Age 81 of Wilmington, Illinois died Friday, February 23, 2024 at Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, Illinois with his loving family at his side.

Born October 30, 1942 in Joliet, Jerry Raymond was a son of Harold and Betty (Carrol) Wilson.

Jerry's passion for music blossomed early in his life. His journey with music commenced during his formative years as a drummer in both the grade school band and later in the high school band at Joliet Township High School, where he proudly graduated with the Class of 1960.

After completing his education, Jerry answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy. His dedication led him to California before transitioning into becoming a Marine Corpsman. Throughout his military career, Jerry was deployed to Okinawa and served outside Ho Chi Minh prior to the Vietnam Conflict and subsequent honorable discharge.

On February 29, 1964, Jerry exchanged vows with Pearl Yeager in Joliet. Together, they built a loving home and raised their daughter in Wilmington. For over five decades, Jerry devoted himself to a career at Caterpillar Tractor Company in Joliet, culminating in his retirement as an Engineer. Beyond his professional pursuits, Jerry was a licensed pilot and imparted his knowledge as a flight instructor at both Morris and Joliet Airports. Additionally, his everlasting love for music led him to entertain audiences for many years and he was proud to have cut records and record music with The Silver Tones.

In pursuit of adventure and embracing life to the fullest, Jerry found joy in scuba diving, snorkeling, parachuting, hiking, and motorcycling over the years. Though characterized by quiet wisdom, he will be fondly remembered as a masterful storyteller and above all else – a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

Survivors include his loving wife, whom he would have been married to 60 years, Pearl; one daughter, Simone (Michael) Kommer of Mokena, Illinois; three grandchildren: Valerie Kommer and Erik Kommer, both of Chicago and Patrick (Mekenna) Kommer of Clinton, Iowa; one great grandson, Dane; one sister, Cheryl Wilson of Joliet and one niece, Heather Dropsky.
