Age 78, of Coal City, Illinois, formerly of New Lenox, Joliet, and Bloomington, Illinois, Bloomington, Indiana, Tampa and Sarasota, Florida and Playa Hermosa, Costa Rica, passed away on Wednesday, July 28, 2026, at Morris Hospital.

Born on January 29, 1948, in Joliet, Jim Albrecht was the son of Dominic and Josephine (Albrecht) Giordano. He was raised and educated in Coal City, where he graduated from Coal City High School with the Class of 1966.

Following graduation, Jim enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, proudly serving his country from December 29, 1966, until receiving his honorable discharge on September 8, 1972. A proud American and Marine veteran, Jim held his military service in high regard throughout his life. After returning home, he worked at the Amoco Refinery as a buyer for more than 20 years. Following his retirement from Amoco, he worked as an associate at Lowe's for an additional 12 years.

Jim was a faithful member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Coal City. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially fishing, and looked forward to playing cards with friends. Jim also had a lifelong interest in music and played the drums with The Footnotes, performing locally at weddings and other events. He enjoyed traveling, particularly to the Caribbean, and was always ready for his next trip. Above all, Jim was a devoted father who valued the time he spent with his family.

He is survived by his children: Anthony Giordano and Nichelle Giordano both of Coal City; one grandchild, Cole Bogdan; nieces and nephews: Scott Giordano, Keith Giordano, Jenny Matthews, Sue Sorge, Allison Giordano, Sheila Giordano and Kristie Giordano as well as his significant other, Diane Maland Smith.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Frank and Dale Giordano; sister, Patricia Matthews and his brother-in-law, Nelson Matthews.

Per Jim's wishes cremation rites are being accorded.

The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 195 South Kankakee Street, in Coal City on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Father Josh Miller will be presiding.

Following the services, Jim will be laid to rest at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois, where full military honors will be rendered.
