Joan Thompson

Age 87 of Wilmington, Illinois, succumbed to her fierce battle with lung cancer on June 15, 2022 with her loving daughters by her side.

Born March 1, 1935 in Chicago Illinois, Wanita Joan was the daughter of Alan and Wanita (Englert) Herdrich. Joan was raised and educated in Chicago and married Robert Thompson on July 12, 1958. 

Joan was a beautiful balance of her parents, loving and caring like her mother and quick witted and crazy like her father. She enjoyed gardening, margaritas, Sunday Funday's watching the Chicago Bears and spending time sharing stories and laughs on The Veranda with family and friends. She loved any kind of animal preferring them over people most of the time.

Survivors include her youngest daughter and best friend Jeanne Thompson of Wilmington, daughters Katherine (Tom) Spangler of Wilmington, Marguerite Yacono (Shelley) of Chicago Heights and Linda (Tom) Frazzini of Indiana, brother Fred (Nancy) Herdrich of Florida; grandchildren Jackie (Rob) Park of Manhattan, Brian (Danielle) Spangler of Indiana, Joseph Yacono (Tim) of Wisconsin, Kelly Yacono (Amy) of Chicago, Debra (Brent) Cunningham of New York and Mark (Terri) Frazzini of Oak Forest; great grandchildren Lexi and Gavin Park, Mason and Evelyn Spangler and Jack and Carter Cunningham; nieces Diane, Debbie, Denise and Patti Lynn, nephew Derek and fur baby Tobi.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert and son Robert Jr.

Cremation rites have been accorded.

The family will receive friends at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington on Saturday June 18, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. until time of procession to Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Wilmington at 3:00 p.m.

Graveside services will be held, and Joan will be laid to rest with her late husband Bob.

At the request of the family and in the true spirit of Joan, attendees are requested to wear bright and colorful attire.
