Joan Mary Wojtonik

Age 80 of Wilmington, formerly of Chicago, passed away peacefully Thursday February 14, 2019 at her home.

Born January 2, 1939 in Chicago, Joan was a daughter of Samuel Ennis and Florence Cease. She was raised and educated in Chicago, and on July 9, 1960 she married Phillip Wojtonik. Joan and Phillip raised their family in the Bridgeport neighborhood of Chicago, and she was employed for many years as a sales associate with the Archer Avenue Big Store.

She enjoyed going to garage sales or shopping at thrift stores looking for a good find, which she affectionately referred to as “Going Junkin”. Joan was a social butterfly and adored all children and especially babies, who held a special place in her heart. She liked to dance and listen to music, and looked forward to playing poker with friends and family.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years: Phillip Wojtonik; three children: Phillip (Cathryn) Wojtonik, Nancy (Tom) Bradley, and Pamela (LeRoy) Vega; eight grandchildren: Nicole, Thomas, Kylie, P.J., Michael, Richard, Roy and Lauren; seven great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents and ten siblings: Emmy Melva, Mabel, Bob, Phoebe, Lloyd, Samuel, Nola Grace, Pearl, and her twin sister Jean.

Per Joan’s wishes, flameless cremation rites are being accorded.

The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation on Saturday February 23, 2019 at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road, in Wilmington from 12:00 p.m. until the time of memorial service at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be at a later date in Wee White Kirk Cemetery in Wisconsin.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Joan’s memory to American Cancer Society.
