Age 56, of Madison, Wisconsin, and formerly of Gardner, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly on October 19, 2025, at St. Francis Hospital in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
Born on August 20, 1969, in Morris, Illinois, Joe is the beloved son of Kay Bell and Joe Bexson, Sr. both of Gardner. He was raised in Gardner and graduated from Gardner-South Wilmington High School with the Class of 1987.
During his high school years, and throughout his college breaks, Joe worked at Marketti’s Grocery Store, where he built lasting friendships and fond memories. He later attended Daytona State University, earning his Bachelor of Science degree.
From an early age, Joe proved himself to be tough. He went on to demonstrate his dedication and leadership through Scouting America, and was proud to have earned the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout. His passion for scouting continued into adulthood as he served as both a Den Leader and Quartermaster, mentoring countless young scouts and fostering their love of the outdoors.
Joe’s professional journey led him into healthcare technology, where he dedicated nearly three decades, currently with G.E. Healthcare as a highly respected and talented engineer. His colleagues will remember him for his expertise, dependability, and the quiet pride he took in his work.
Outside of his career, Joe found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved camping, fishing, and working on projects—whether repairing family vehicles, crafting through woodworking, building models, or caring for his motorcycle. A true jack of all trades, Joe’s hands were rarely idle, and his heart was always set on helping others.
Throughout his life, Joe remained a devoted son, often traveling between Madison and Gardner to be present for his parents. Above all, he was a loving father who deeply cherished his children. Those who knew Joe will remember him for his warm humor, kind spirit, and unwavering generosity. He always carried a smile, greeted life with optimism, and treated his pets as cherished family members.
Joe’s sudden passing leaves a void in the hearts of many. He will be remembered as funny, selfless, hardworking, and endlessly caring—a man whose legacy of love and laughter endures in those who were fortunate to know him. Gone too soon, but forever remembered.
Survivors include his parents: Kay Bell and Joe Bexson, Sr., both of Gardner; Amy Bexson and their five children: Tyler (Dion) Bexson of Madison, Henry Bexson of Woodward, Iowa, Riley Bexson (Madi Ziegert) of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, and Chloe Bexson (Max Loeder) and Sofia Bexson, both of Madison; three brothers: Michael Bexson of Gardner, David (Angela) Bexson of South Wilmington, Illinois and Jeffrey (Joy) Bexson of Gardner; his mother-in-law, Teresa Bunce; nieces and nephews: Jayson Turrentine, Cassandra (Jeffrey) Carlson, Kristen (Lucas) Cullmann, Benjamin Bexson, Christopher Bexson, Amelia Bunce and Scarlett Bunce; aunts and uncles: George (Donna) Bexson of Gardner, Lynne (James) Kociss of Morris, Illinois and Robert (Sharon) Pickles of Gardner, and his lifelong friend who was like a brother, Tim Perkins.
