Joe A. Hughes

Age 63 of Wilmington, Illinois and formerly of Braidwood, Illinois died April 20, 2023.

Born December 28, 1959 in Joliet, Illinois, Joe was a son of Ray and Orphie (Hoy) Hughes. He was raised and educated in Wilmington.  Joe spent most of his life working in the various trades and most recently worked as a Journeyman Carpenter with the Local #1 Carpenters out of Chicago.

An excellent builder and ‘Jack of all trades’, Joe was extremely creative and handy. He enjoyed tinkering, fishing, music, dancing, and was a Dale Earnhardt fan.  Joe had an infectious personality that could draw anyone he wanted in.  He was a master debater and loved discussing the most off the wall topics. Arguing was one of his favorite past times. He also loved spending time with his grandkids.

Survivors include his children: Tony (Monica) Hughes of Wilmington, Angela (Chris) Burnette of Alpharetta, Georgia and Andrew (Jane) Hughes of Custer Park, Illinois; three grandchildren: Emily Hughes, Lyric Hughes and Lilian Etchoe; two brothers, Ronald (Rosetta) Hughes of Wilmington and David (Barb) Hughes of Channahon, Illinois, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Roger.

Cremation rites have been accorded, and family and friends are welcome to gather together at The Rustic Inn in Wilmington on Saturday, April 29, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. to celebrate Joe’s life.

Joe will be laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery in Wilmington, Illinois at a later date.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Joe’s memory to his family.
