John C. Hennessy

 Age 72, of Coal City, Illinois, and formerly of Channahon, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at Lightways Hospice Home in Joliet, Illinois.

Born October 23, 1952, in Joliet, Illinois, John Clifford is the son of Ina Marlene (nee Robinson) Rueger of Channahon and the late John R. Hennessy. He grew up in Channahon and graduated from Minooka High School with the Class of 1970. Shortly after, John began his career as an electrician, dedicating over three decades to his craft. His commitment and expertise were recognized when he was recently honored with his 50-year pin from IBEW Local #176.

Outside of work, John was a member of the Coal City Area Club and cherished spending time outdoors; hunting, fishing, and camping. John also had a love for cars and spent years racing Enduro at the Grundy County Speedway, finding both the thrill and camaraderie on the track.

John will be remembered most for his vibrant storytelling, infectious sense of humor, and ability to make everyone around him smile. He was a selfless individual who always put others before himself, never wanting to burden those he loved. His warmth, generosity, and unwavering care for others leave a lasting legacy in the hearts of his family and friends.

Survivors include his mother and step-father, Marlene and Bob Rueger of Channahon; three sons and daughters-in-law: Bryan (Betsy) Hennessy of Gardner, Marty (Sara) Hennessy of Minooka and Steve (Steph) Hennessy of Berthoud, Colorado; five grandchildren: Emma Hennessy, Claire Hennessy, Alex (Chantal) Henze, Kyle Hennessy and John Hennessy; one great grandson, Emmett Hennessy, and one sister, Deb (the late Glen) March of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, as well as his best friend, who was like a brother, Jack Davis of Minooka.

John was preceded in death by his father, John R. Hennessy; stepfather, Roy Wheaton and his brother-in-law, Glen March.

Cremation rites have been accorded.

The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block north of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City on Sunday, December 29, 2024 between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in John’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
