Age 91 of Minooka, Illinois, formerly of Joliet, Illinois, died Friday, September 12, 2025 at Lightways Hospice in Joliet.
Born November 11, 1933 in Lockport, Illinois, John Clifford was a son of Myrt and Lucille (Morrison) Kenney. He was raised in Lockport and graduated from Lockport Township High School with the Class of 1951. John served honorably overseas in Germany as a member of the United States Army until his honorable discharge in 1957. On November 10, 1962, he married Anne Lacyk at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Morris, and together they made their home and raised their family in Joliet.
John was a member of the IBEW Local Union 176 and was employed by Commonwealth Edison for 40 years as a union electrician. John loved sports, and was proud to coach both his sons in baseball and loved cheering on his grandsons from the stands of their athletic activities. He was a great neighborly guy who was kind and generous to anyone in need, and a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Survivors include his sons: John (Christine) Kenney of Plainfield, Illinois and Tom (Heather) Kenney of Gurnee, Illinois; four grandsons: John "Jack" Kenney, Daniel (Rachel) Kenney, Patrick (Courtney) Kenney, and Thomas Kenney; two great grandchildren: Charlotte and Hudson Kenney; two sisters-in-law: Stephanie Risinger and Marietta Lacyk; and several nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Anne Kenney, one grandson, Mark Kenney, and his brother and sisters: Bruce, Carol, Marjorie, Beverly, and Sonnie.
The family will receive friends at Saint Mary Catholic Church, 303 West St Marys Street, in Minooka on Friday, September 19, 2025 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend John Honiotes, and burial will follow at Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery in Morris, Illinois where John will be laid to rest with his wife.
Pallbearers will be John's sons and grandsons.
