Age 82 of Coal City, Illinois, formerly of Shorewood, Illinois, died unexpectedly on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at his home.
Born January 12, 1943 in Joliet, Illinois, John Frederick was a son of John Naiden and Helen (Scoff) Decman. He was raised and educated in Joliet and graduated from Joliet Catholic High School where he was a Team Captain for the football team. Jack furthered his education at Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois where he completed a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. On February 20, 1981, he married Linda Manietta in Morris, Illinois, and together they raised their family in Shorewood before relocating to Coal City. While living in Coal City, he became a member of Assumption Catholic Church where he volunteered in several capacities throughout the years.
Jack began his career with St. Joseph Hospital in Joliet working in the accounting and finance department. He then pursued an opportunity with the Franciscan Sisters Healthcare Corporation, where he would dedicate over 30 years of service, retiring in 2000 as the Vice President of Corporate Finance. After retirement, Jack fully embraced his role as "grandfather extraordinaire". he was a proud grandpa who relished the opportunity to help watch his grandchildren grow for his children while they pursued their careers. Jack was well known for always having the morning bacon ready as well as his homemade bread.
He loved the holidays for the opportunity to have his family together, which was very important to him. Jack loved classic Christmas films such as It's A Wonderful Life and A Christmas Carol, so much so that he would watch them throughout the year when he was in the mood. Besides his love of family and dedication to his work, he will be fondly remembered for quick wit and his love of dad jokes.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Naiden of Coal City; six children: Lisa (Bill) Emerson of Shorewood, Kathy (Jim) McKirahan of Charleston, Illinois, Sue Naiden of Chicago, Illinois, Nikki (T.J.) Peters of Oak Park, Illinois, and Lindsey (Andrew) Steenson and Brian (Arica) Naiden, both of Coal City; fourteen grandchildren: Austin, Ethan, Olivia, Sam, Joe, Jackson, Alice, Daphne, Isabelle, Audrey, Mackenna, Maya, Cora, and Jack; four brothers: Dennis (Mary) Decman, Daniel (Lilian) Decman, Mike (Debbie) Decman, and Ken (Nancy) Decman; brothers and sisters-in-law: Sue (Doug) Wills, Tony (Lori) Manietta, and Kim (Greg) Hodgen, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, John Naiden and Helen (Frank) Decman; mother and father-in-law: A.J. and Sue Manietta; one brother, Rick Naiden, one sister, Sister Jude Marie Naiden, OSF, and one nephew, Mikey Decman.
The family will receive friends at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway Street, in Coal City on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow at Assumption Catholic Church, 215 South Kankakee Street, in Coal City on Thursday, July 24, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, and cremation rites will be accorded following the funeral services.
