John "Jack" Schneider

John "Jack" Schneider

Age 83 of Wilmington, Illinois died Sunday, March 10, 2024 at his home.


Born November 10, 1940 in Lostant, Illinois, Jack was a son of John and Myrtle (Day) Schneider.


He was raised and educated in Lostant while his family built their family home in Indian Head Park, where he remained for many years until relocating to Lockport and then finally Wilmington.


Jack was a heavy equipment operator and he truly loved his work. One of his greatest joys was operating a backhoe, cutting and shaping the earth with precision accuracy.


When not at work, Jack enjoyed fishing in the summertime and watching the Chicago Bears in the wintertime.


He was a loyal friend, quick to lend a hand to whomever needed it, and he had a special place in his heart for all animals, especially his dogs.


Survivors include his wife, Penny, his sons, John (Doreen), Jeff (Debbie), Joe, Jim Day, and Christopher, and his daughters Brenda Sparks and Lori Abill (Keith), as well as his grandchildren, Candace, Hillary, Drew, Alex, Courtney, Marcus, Pete Rombakis, Krystle, Cameron, Kyle, Bethany, and great grandchildren, and one sister Carol (Gerry), and one brother, Robert (Donna), and many nieces and nephews.


Jack was preceded in death by his parents.


Per his wishes, cremation rights are being accorded and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.


In Lieu of Flowers, memorials in Jack's name may be made as gifts in his memory to Lightways Hospice, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, Illinois 60431.
