June Danielson

Age 96 of Wilmington, Illinois, died Monday, October 2, 2023 at Miller Rehabilitation Center in Kankakee, Illinois.

Born August 2, 1927 in St. Catherines, Ontario, June was a daughter of Aldege and Grace (Tannahill) Marleau. She was raised in New York until her family moved to Wilmington, where she graduated from Wilmington High School. June furthered her education at Whitworth College in Brookhaven, Mississippi to pursue a career in teaching. She worked as a physical education teacher, serving communities throughout Will and Kankakee counties. June married Richard "Dick" Danielson in 1971, and together they shared many years of happiness and made Wilmington their home.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, and was also a member of Ducks Unlimited. June was a gifted artist who especially enjoyed watercolors and drawing. She learned to have an appreciation for nature and always looked forward to trips to Nebraska with Dick to their hunting lodge. June was truly a one of a kind person, whose flamboyant personality and independent nature left a lasting impression on all of those whom she knew and loved.

Survivors include her sister, Gloria (the late William) Preusse of Englewood, Florida, as well as several nieces and nephews and countless friends.

June was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Dick Danielson in 2008.

Per June's wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and she will be laid to rest with Dick in Nebraska.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made as gifts in June's memory to Kuzma Care Cottage or to the Christian Help Association.
