Karen Mehochko
Age 60 of Mazon, Illinois, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at Morris Hospital.
Born April 25, 1965 in Joliet, Illinois, Karen Rose is a daughter of Rose (Storm) and the late Philip Mehochko, Sr. She was raised in Mazon and graduated from Coal City High School with the Class of 1983. For over 30 years, she worked for Illinois Valley Industries in Morris where she devoted herself to working with adults with intellectual disabilities. Karen would often help her family at the Coal City Area Club during the summer months to help run the concession stand. She was a true animal lover, particularly fond of her cats, and enjoyed playing card and board games with her family. Family was everything to Karen, and she was devoted to being the best mother, daughter, sister and friend she could be. Her loving nature and compassion share with all were her trademarks, setting an example of pure kindness for all to aspire to.
Survivors include her mother, Rose Mehochko of Mazon, three children: Sharon (Frank) Janousek of Dwight and Rodney Prodehl, both of Dwight, Illinois, and Riley Prodehl of Morris; one brother, James (Diana) Mehochko of Horseshoe Bay, Texas, and one sister, Lynn (Steven) Bernhard of Channahon, Illinois; as well as many nieces and nephews and her beloved feline companions.
Karen was preceded in death by her father, Philip Mehochko, Sr.; one sister in infancy, Sharon, and two brothers: Rodney and Philip, Jr.
Cremation rites are being accorded, and the family will receive friends for a memorial visitation at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway Street, in Coal City on Monday, February 23, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. until the time of memorial service at 7:00 p.m.
A private family inurnment will take place at Braceville Gardner Cemetery at a later date.
