LaRae Ann Cotter

Age 76 of Morris, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home on the morning of December 20, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on April 7, 1949, in Morris, LaRae was a daughter of LeRoy Wayne and Gloria Maxine (Fraley) Harrington. Following a formative education in Morris, she graduated from Mazon High School with the Class of 1967.

On March 9, 1968, LaRae united in marriage with Douglas Cotter at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Morris. Together, they created a home in Morris, where they raised their two sons with love and dedication. LaRae devoted over two decades of her professional life to Grundy Bank before concluding her career at Standard Bank and Trust. A faithful member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Parish in Morris, she also was a former member of the Rod and Gun Club, and offered unwavering support to EWTN.

At the heart of LaRae's life was her deep commitment to family. She relished family gatherings, particularly the cherished Christmas dinners shared with her sisters, where her thoughtfulness shone brightly. Known for her selflessness, LaRae constantly prioritized the needs of others, generously sharing her resources and time. Her love for the outdoors was evident in her support for her late husband Doug's passion for hunting, often marked by her skillful preparation of his wild game.

LaRae will be most fondly remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family. She was a faithful wife and a dedicated mother who carried herself with grace and strength. Always composed and never one to complain, she leaves behind a legacy that embodies kindness and love. LaRae Ann Cotter will be deeply missed, yet her spirit and impact will endure in the hearts of all who knew her.

Survivors include her son, Douglas Cotter, Jr. of Morris; sisters: Sharee Beeler of Mazon, Illinois, Cynthia Lyne of Morris, Michelle (Pete) Lake of Chenoa, Illinois and Heidi Harrington and Stacie Cortez, both of Morris; one sister-in-law, Sharon (Charles) Priovolos of Lockport, Illinois and numerous nieces and nephews.

LaRae was preceded in death by her parents; husband Douglas, Sr. (2015), son Timothy (1989); two sisters: Patricia (David) Edmunds and Kathie (John) Spreitzer; one niece, Keri Ann Walker Andrews and one great nephew, Brighton Garretson.

The family will receive friends for a visitation at Fruland Funeral Home, 121 West Jefferson Street in Morris on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow on Wednesday morning, December 24, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 600 East Jackson Street in Morris. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Revered Jason Stone presiding and Deacon Paul Jung assisting. 

Burial will be in Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery in Morris. Pallbearers will be: Calvert Kuykendall, Michael Kuykendall, Alex Zweeres, Adam Akre, Austin Akre and Matt Magolan. 

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in LaRae’s memory to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or to EWTN.
