Larry Dean Severson

Age 71, of Minooka, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on February 25, 1955, in Morris, Illinois, Larry Dean was the son of Natheal and Lois (Hauge) Severson. He was raised and educated in Minooka and graduated from Minooka High School with the Class of 1973.

Larry began his working life on his family’s farm before beginning a long and dedicated career with Mobil Oil Refinery in Joliet, Illinois. He worked as an electrician for 39 ½ years before eventually retiring. 

He had a love for music and entertaining. He DJ'd weddings and parties and later started his own karaoke business, “Larryoke,” which he enjoyed from 1999 to 2009.

He found great joy in the simple things in life and was a member of Lisbon Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Larry was a devoted fan of the Chicago Blackhawks, Chicago White Sox, and Chicago Bears and rarely missed the opportunity to cheer on his favorite teams. He enjoyed playing baseball, fishing, going to the casino, following Mark & Kara’s band, Friday night bowling leagues, and searching for treasures at estate sales.

Larry was also quite the collector and had a special love for trains and Hummels. His passion for collecting included more than 700 Hummel figurines, along with an impressive train collection and layout that stretched from his train room through the living room and kitchen.

Above all else, Larry treasured his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his two daughters, Deanna (fiancé, Thomas Smith) Severson and Megan (Gaspar Garza) Severson; and his grandchildren, Kylie, Karli, and Zachary.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Laura Ortwerth.

The family will receive friends for a visitation on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Fruland Funeral Home, 121 West Jefferson Street, in Morris from 4:00 p.m. until the time of funeral services at 7:00 p.m. Pastor Patrick Lohse will officiate.

Following the services, cremation rites will be accorded. Larry will be laid to rest at Lisbon Cemetery in Lisbon, Illinois, with his parents at a later date.
